Honey and Cheese
What kind of cheese is good with honey?
We find that honey pairs well with almost any type of cheese so why don’t you give it a try? Some interesting combinations include:
- Ricotta drizzled with honey served for breakfast or even as a dessert. This pairing is fantastic with figs, apricots or berries and you could even add a salty element by serving Prosciutto on the side.
- Brie is lovely with a splash of honey and a garnish of nuts.
- Blue cheese is heavenly with a trickle of honey. If you usually shy away from strong blues, this is the time to be more adventurous. The sweet honey will mellow out the strong flavour.
- Parmigiano-Reggiano and other aged cheeses, such as sharp cheddar, are also delicious with a generous drizzle of honey.
- Fresh goats cheese and other tangy, acidic cheeses (like feta) are subdued with a splash of honey.
Here are our favourites:
Blue Cheese, Honey and Crushed Pecans
This is an unusual combination, but tastes delicious, served with a selection of Stockan's Oatcakes and it makes a fantastic appetiser or sharing platter.
Prep time: 5 mins and serves 8
Ingredients
- 500g blue cheese (we used a good quality Stilton)
- ¼ cup honey
- ¼ cup chopped pecans
- Selection of Stockan's Oatcakes
Place the blue cheese on a serving platter and just before serving, drizzle the honey over the cheese and sprinkle with the pecans.
